I was pleasantly surprised to find my own novel “Jylland tur/retur”, as well as Dale Basye’s very funny “Hulen” (which I have translated to Danish) as ebooks here in Denmark! In other news, the snow finally melted but it was April 8th in my neck of the woods before it did so. I am currently enjoying warmer weather, and the flowers and trees coming into their own in all their colorful glory!

To include a tiny bit of news in this update, I’ll end off the website’s news for 2012 with this: The Danish translation of “Heck” is off to the presses, and now I’m looking forward to a lot of exciting new projects in the coming year.

Autumn is my favorite time of year, and also by far the busiest. Those two statements don’t necessarily correlate with one another though. :-)

What I enjoy the most about this season is how the colors spring to life outside, where a palette of gorgeous red, green, yellow, and brown mix wonderfully together in the forests I frequent in the area where I live. I’m lucky to have so many woodland areas nearby to walk in, and do so every chance I get.

Those opportunities are less frequent in these months as I’d like them to be, however, as I am wrapping up a couple of different projects and assorted loose ends, as well as planning next year’s schedule. 2013 will entail less writing, more editing, and more promotion. I had a hard time convincing myself of putting new writing projects on the backburner, but the fact is that I have a plethora of unpolished works loitering on my harddrive that I ought to take some time to edit, and then decide for myself whether or not they are worthy of pursuing a publishing deal for, or if they are destined for the recycle bin labeled: “Gave me experience in writing but wasn’t very good”.

On a completely different note, I want to thank everyone who has purchased SOS Sommerferie through Amazon, and want to remind Amazon Prime members that they can actually read the book for free through that service.

I just returned from a great trip to Tuscany. It’s amazing how a trip like that can stimulate the brain, clear away stray thoughts, and refresh one’s batteries! Thus I’m back and hard at work re-editing one novel and finishing another I started stitching together back in March.

Editing feels like a resilient monster to slay sometimes, but through the years I’ve made a bit of a routine about it. The first edit is all about cutting filler… The second revolves around whether or not the web stretching out throughout the novel – from characters to setting to dialogue – is woven exactly right, and binding everything together in a proper fashion. Finally, polishing up the language is the third go-around, meticulously going through each sentence to make the words sound better in an attempt to make the final product shine more brightly. Any edits after that are a combination of the three.

Only on very rare occasions do I add to a novel in the editing process (though I may re-write parts), because I am very strict in my initial synopsis and the layout of the novel I write from it.

I don’t necessarily like editing – though it’s not as if I dread either; it’s just something that needs to be done – and done thoroughly at that. Hopefully the final product is worth the effort.

It’s been a productive few weeks, as my second occupation as an IT consultant has seen the usual summer calm. It has enabled me to get a large amount of writing done, as well as finish researching a few side projects I’ve been looking into.

As a big fan of the fantasy genre, I’m excited that my hometown will be hosting a new, hopefully annual, book faire in mid-september. Danish and international authors will be there, so come by if you’re in the area! I will actually be travelling for the first day, but will try and make it out there on the second day of the fair. Having already been on my “summer holiday” all the way back in March, I’ve been hard at work translating Heck to Danish, writing on a new alternate history novel, and editing a novel I’ve had in an old dusty folder for quite some time (on a harddrive – the folder is named “dusty”).

Given how much I’ve enjoyed translating Heck and the various challenges along the way (Mr. Dale E. Basye really knows how to twirl a sentence around itself for maximum oomph!), I’m seriously considering giving one of my Danish manuscripts an overhaul – reversing the translation and getting a feel for that as well.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t use this post as a cheap plug for my Danish debut novel, SOS Sommerferie, as well. It is currently available for the Kindle through all Amazon stores. Here’s the .com one. For anyone who’s bought it, please add a review (Danish or English – or preferably both to keep the tone “international” even though the novel is only available in Danish). I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Denmark has been particularly wet and cold this summer, but I’m guessing the heat will be back with a vengeance later on in July and August. For a person with grass-allergies like myself, I haven’t minded the frequent showers one bit, but I know most folks prefer eternal sunshine so here’s a dose of that!

Finally, if anyone knows of a good magazine which takes short-story submissions between, oh let’s say 5-10.000 words, please let me know, as I’m looking for a place to publish a few I’ve written. (They can be considered quirky and/or humorous in genre if that helps narrow it down).
